For ships that usually sail on fresh water, we recommend aluminum anodes,
because aluminum has a higher potential difference with other metals than zinc.
This is very important because fresh water has a higher electrical resistance than salt water.
Cathodic protection by means of anodes is absolutely necessary for the preservation of all metal parts underwater.
So anodes must be applied not only on steel, but also on wooden, polyester and aluminum ships.
The VETUS aluminum anodes consist of an alloy of aluminium-indium and zinc Mil - A - 24779 (SH).
All VETUS anodes have a streamlined shape.
They are mounted either by means of threaded rods specially manufactured for this purpose,
welded to the hull of a steel ship,
or by means of special bolts (through the ship's hull) for polyester and wooden boats.
We supply these threaded rods and bolts separately.
When ordering, always specify the material of the ship,
so that we can send you the correct mounting materials.
All metal parts must be directly connected to the anode.
For this purpose, for example, the bolts to be used in polyester ships are already provided with a
special connection for electrical wire, so that the connection with metal parts within the ship
can be made. With polyester and wooden ships, only the metal parts need to be protected.
The anodes are supplied without a connection kit. For anode type 15, two connection kits are required.
All VETUS anodes are provided with a protective paint layer on the mounting side (underside) to prevent damage
paint from your boat where the anode is mounted.
